Games of the week: The Amazing Spider-man and LEGO Batman 2
Two very fun, geeky-games this week:
The Amazing Spider-man
Spidey is crawling everywhere over the coming eight days with the game released tomorrow and the movie swinging into theaters next week. This installment of the franchise acts as an epilogue of sorts for the movie allowing for a free-roaming open world play. The story line is pretty simple and, by not following the movie but taking place after it, allows for much more freedom. Spidey is to protect Manhattan from criminals all over the city and has really solid combat.
Web Rush is a new mechanic allowing players to engage in a range of acrobatic moves and attacks in, around and even under the city – check out this trailer to see it in action:
Any fan of Spiderman will want to get this game as, frankly, it probably is the best web-slinger game to date.
LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
This is a game I know my son will want. He loves the LEGO game franchises and this Batman, like the LEGO: Lord of the Rings we covered a couple of weeks ago, features voice-acting. You must defend Gotham City from the Joker and Lex Luther and along the journey you can collect DC characters such as The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Superman and many others. These characters also unlock new super abilities opening the game up more than any other LEGO game with free-roaming flight. I feel this is going to usher in the next generation of LEGO games and, where nothing is groundbreaking new, the games feels and plays much, much bigger.
Hands down, this is going to be one of the best games this summer and will keep me and my kids entertained for hours on end.
