For me, the most jaw dropping moment of E3 wasn’t the look at some of the really cool games we have coming out later this year and early Q1. It wasn’t the “2nd-screen” philosophy of the Wii U or Xbox Smart Glass. It was a look at what we’ll be getting with the next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
“What? Wait – there was nothing from Microsoft or Sony about their next-gen consoles!” You cry – and you’d be right. Nothing – from them. However those awesome folks at Square Enix unveiled a tech demo of what we can expect from the next Final Fantasy. Simply titled “Agni’s Philosophy” the demo was to showcase that such footage would be 100% real-time with no pre-rendering. Not only does this clip give us a taster of what we might expect from the next installment of the series – it is just mind-blowing to think all of this is real-time generated.

Obviously the Halo 4 opener – where Master Chief makes a return – and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 that closed the 90-minute presentation from Microsoft at E3 were expected big hits, the Nike/Kinect partnership, according to Spike’s All Access Live, didn’t resonate with many of those tuned in but I feel that the majority of those who will use the system for sports may not be avid GameTrailer/SpikeTV/E3 viewers. I’m certain that it will turn out to be a big hit this holiday season as people dig under the hood of its capabilities.
Sony didn’t touch the subject of hardware and spent it’s time pushing games and more games. I’m not suggesting that is a bad thing but it loses a little traction when you compare it to the others. The software line-up coming is very impressive though and I think the hottest title is The Last of Us from the Uncharted 3 developers, Naughty Dog. The graphics were, simply put, mind-blowing and makes you wonder why so much processing power of the PS3 clearly remains untouched for the majority of games. More

One of the long-standing great games of old is none other than SimCity. It freakin’ rocked those golden days. No amount of superior graphics would ever really improve on the original except to, perhaps, satisfy the eyes. I will confess – I totally dismissed this game as anything of interest until seeing the trailer. Hopefully it will realize the potential it truly has.
SimCity will be released on Windows and Mac in the fall of 2012 and they have done much more than upped the graphics engine, AI and simulation – all of which were obvious upgrades out of the gate. They added multiplayer options! Invite friends to build their own city in a “region” (or strangers if you so wish) and you get to pit your city against theirs for good… and for bad.
Do you help your neighbor when a natural disaster strikes or turn the other cheek? How can you woo people to live and work in your city over theirs? Challenge accepted! Check out the trailer: More

Just a couple of hours ago the new Tomb Raider trailer, shown live on the Spike TV’s GameTrailers, came with the announcement that the game’s launch is now pushed back from Q4 this year to March 2013.
I cannot tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this game since seeing the original trailer but, my goodness me, March cannot come quick enough. Stunning, beautiful CGI that rolls so smoothly into the gameplay… yes please!
Check the amazing CGI introduction trailer – which still sends shivers down my spine: More

Agent 47 is making an appearance at E3 next week in Los Angeles, but the ICA has other plans. Hiring a group of nuns that have both sex appeal and a violent streak that will have them saying Hail Mary’s until the cows come home, 47 and The Habits duke it out in this new trailer for Hitman: Absolution, released by IO Interactive and Square Enix today.
The CGI trailer, entitled “Attack of the Saints” was created by Visual Works with direction and design from IO Interactive to promote the new game ahead of E3. In the game, releasing later this year, we follow The Original Assassin, Agent 47, betrayed by the Agency and now hunted by the police. Can 47 find redemption in a corrupt world? This trailer will certainly whet your appetite for the explosive action we have in store late this year. Check out the awesome trailer after the cut:

Oh, the rumor-mill is alive and kicking this morning. With E3 kicking off one week from today it was to be expected that news sources would be reporting on all the hypotheticals to tide us over. So it is time to take stock and look at what we actually know before we get all excited and start reserving our place in the line outside Gamestop.
If rumors from Kotaku are true, the next Xbox will not feature or have any announcements from Microsoft at E3. Where most companies would jump in and use the event to generate buzz, Microsoft actually avoided E3 with the 360 announcement as well, instead opting for a special show on MTV a few weeks prior to the expo in 2005. So, while we can rule out hearing any news over the next few weeks – don’t think that we have to wait until E3 next year before we garner anything. In fact, we already have some juicy details that provide a foundation of what we can expect.
